Chapter 3 – The Lawyer's Mistake

The next morning, Emma walked into the law office without telling anyone.
Ryan and Claire were already there.
Both of them froze the moment they saw her.
"What are you doing here?" Ryan demanded.
Emma smiled calmly.
"I came to sign the papers."
Relief washed across his face.
He believed she knew nothing.
The attorney slid the documents across the polished table.
"Mrs. Carter, we only need your confirmation."
Emma flipped through every page.
House ownership.
Investment accounts.
Life insurance.
Retirement funds.
Ryan had transferred almost everything into shell companies connected to Claire.
He planned to divorce Emma within weeks.
He would leave her with almost nothing while keeping full custody of Noah using his financial advantage.
The attorney finally looked up.
"Mrs. Carter... your signature is already here."
Emma slowly placed a second folder on the table.
"I know."
She opened it.
A certified forensic handwriting report.
Bank statements.
Copies of forged documents.
Security footage from the bank.
And one audio recording.
Ryan's own voice.
"She'll never check the paperwork. Emma trusts me too much."
Silence swallowed the room.
The attorney's face turned white.
Claire's hands began shaking uncontrollably.
Ryan reached for the folder.

Emma closed it before he could touch a single page.
"I've already sent copies to the police."
