Chapter 2: The Woman Behind The Smile

Chapter 2: The Woman Behind The Smile
Victoria finally walked away from the nursery door.
But she didn't leave the house.
She waited.
She always waited.
That was something Emily told me.
“She never loses control in front of people,” Emily whispered.
“She only shows who she really is when nobody can stop her.”
I carefully removed the restraints from Emily’s wrists.
She cried silently when she was finally free.
Not because of the pain.
Because she could finally breathe.
I carried my twins into my arms.
They were peaceful.
Completely unaware that their mother had nearly destroyed someone who cared for them.
“Why didn't you tell me before?” I asked Emily.
She looked away.
“Because she threatened my son.”
My blood turned cold.
“What?”
Emily reached into her pocket.
She pulled out an old hospital bracelet.
“My son has been sick for months.”
“Victoria found out.”
“She told me if I ever exposed her, she would make sure I lost my job and couldn't afford his treatment.”
I stared at the bracelet.
My hands shook.
Victoria didn't just hurt Emily.
She controlled her.
But the biggest question remained.
