Chapter 7: The Family We Chose

A year later, I stood in the backyard watching Ethan run through the grass.

He was happy.

Free.

Safe.

Chloe was there too.

Brooke had left Richard and started a new life.

She realized something important.

Children should never be used in adult battles.

Chloe and Ethan grew up together.

Not as enemies.

Not as replacements.

As family.

Richard eventually disappeared from the public eye.

The man who once believed money could buy everything learned the hardest lesson.

Some things cannot be bought back.

Trust.

Love.

A child’s innocence.

Years later, Ethan asked me about that day.

The day I came home early.

The day everything changed.

I smiled and told him:

“Sometimes life breaks something apart because it was never built the right way.”

He looked confused.

So I added:

“But sometimes, from the pieces…”

“You build something stronger.”

Ethan smiled.

And I knew.

The boy who was once told he didn’t belong…

May you like

had finally found the place where he always belonged.

Home.
