Chapter 2: The Name Only a Mother Could Know
Logan stood frozen.
His mind fought against what his eyes were seeing.
Because if Mira was aliveâŠ
Then who was the woman he buried?
Who had he mourned for three years?
Who had everyone believed was gone?
The woman slowly looked up.
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
Then her expression changed.
Fear.
Confusion.
Recognition.
âLoganâŠâ
Hearing his name from her mouth nearly broke him.
Nobody said it like that.
Not anymore.
Eli didnât hesitate.
He ran toward her.
âMom!â
The woman collapsed into tears.
Her hands touched his face like she was making sure he was real.
âMy little moonâŠâ
Logan stopped breathing.
That phrase.
Those two words.
They belonged only to Mira.
When Eli was a baby, she used to hold him every night and whisper:
âYouâre my little moon.â
It was their secret.
Nobody else knew.
Not even family.
Logan slowly reached into his wallet.
His hands trembled as he pulled out an old photograph.
The same woman.
The same eyes.
The same smile.
Except in the photo, she was standing beside him.
Before everything disappeared.
âWhere have you been?â Logan whispered.
Mira looked down.
And for the first timeâŠ
Logan saw something worse than sadness.
Fear.
âI tried to come home.â
May you like
Her voice cracked.
âBut someone made sure I never could.â
