CHAPTER 2 — The Woman Behind Every Fortune

Nathan stood frozen in the doorway.

His phone kept vibrating.

Every notification carved another crack into the life he thought he owned.

Investment terminated.

Credit facility suspended.

Board meeting called.

Emergency audit initiated.

One after another.

His breathing became shallow.

"This has to be a mistake."

Vanessa grabbed his arm.

"Nathan... fix this."

He dialed his bank.

No answer.

He called his chief financial officer.

Straight to voicemail.

Then his largest investor.

The call lasted less than ten seconds.

"We've been informed that your personal guarantees are no longer valid."

Click.

The line went dead.

Nathan slowly lowered the phone.

His hands were shaking.

Inside the villa, Elena watched everything through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

She didn't celebrate.

She simply turned toward her staff.

"Prepare the conference room."

The house manager nodded immediately.

"Yes, Ms. Laurent."

Within minutes, twelve executives entered the villa.

Not one of them looked at Nathan.

They walked straight past him.

Every one of them stopped in front of Elena.

"Good afternoon, Chairwoman."

Nathan stared.

Chairwoman?

His mind raced.

Impossible.

He had attended dozens of board meetings over the years.

The chairwoman had never appeared in person.

Every instruction had come through encrypted emails.

Every signature had been digital.

He had assumed the mysterious founder lived overseas.

Slowly...

The executives took their seats.

Elena sat at the head of the table.

The screen behind her lit up.

Across it appeared the logo of Aurora Holdings—the investment company that quietly owned controlling shares in nearly every corporation Nathan had built.

Including his own.

Nathan whispered,

"No..."

Elena looked at him calmly.

"You spent seven years believing you were building an empire."

She folded her hands.

"I spent those same seven years making sure it survived."

Silence filled the room.

Then she gave her next order.

"Remove Nathan Brooks as CEO... effective immediately."

Every hand around the table rose in agreement.

May you like

Unanimous.

Nathan had just lost everything.
