Chapter 3 — The Truth Comes Out

Valeria denied everything.

"The notebook is fake."

"The recordings are edited."

"She's been trying to destroy our marriage for years."

But the evidence kept growing.

Hospital security retrieved surveillance footage from the previous three weeks.

The cameras showed Valeria entering Teresa's room repeatedly when Samuel wasn't there.

Sometimes she disconnected the oxygen tubing for several seconds before reconnecting it.

Sometimes she secretly removed medication from the bedside table.

Then investigators searched their home.

Hidden inside Valeria's closet was a folder labeled Property Transfer.

Inside were forged legal documents prepared to transfer Teresa's house into Valeria's name after her death.

There was even a life insurance policy Samuel had never known existed.

He stared at the paperwork in disbelief.

"It was never about my mother..."

"It was always about the house."

Detectives also uncovered deleted text messages recovered from Valeria's phone.

"It has to happen before she changes the will."

"He's too blind to notice."

At the police station, confronted with overwhelming evidence, Valeria finally stopped crying.

She stared coldly at Samuel.

"I wasted seven years waiting for your business to recover."

"Your mother stood between me and the life I deserved."

Samuel realized the woman he had loved no longer existed...

Or perhaps she never had.
