Chapter 2: The Evidence He Never Expected

When I opened my eyes again...

I wasn't in the freezer.

I was in a hospital room.

The first thing I saw was Detective James Carter sitting beside my bed.

His expression was serious.

Not the expression of someone investigating a victim.

The expression of someone who had already seen the truth.

"You are very lucky to be alive," he said.

I looked at him silently.

"How did you find me?"

He placed a small evidence bag on the table.

Inside was my recording device.

"We received an anonymous alert."

I frowned.

"Anonymous?"

Detective Carter nodded.

"Your security system automatically sent the footage to a backup server when the freezer temperature dropped below a dangerous level."

I closed my eyes.

Of course.

Richard never knew.

Before our marriage, I had built the company's security network myself.

He thought he controlled everything.

But he never understood the systems behind the success.

"Do you have enough evidence?" I asked.

The detective opened a folder.

Inside were printed photographs.

Bank transfers.

Messages.

Video recordings.

Everything.

Richard's affair.

His plan to fake my death.

His conversations with the woman he planned to marry after my "accident."

The woman who thought she was about to become the new owner of my empire.

"He confessed without realizing it," Detective Carter said.

"We have him on camera explaining everything."

I stared at the evidence.

For years, Richard controlled the story.

He convinced everyone he was the genius.

The leader.

The hero.

But now...

the truth belonged to me.

Three days later, Richard appeared on television.

He stood outside our mansion wearing a black suit.

His expression was perfectly rehearsed.

"My wife’s tragic passing has been devastating..."

I almost laughed.

He was already planning my funeral.

He was already taking interviews.

Already accepting sympathy.

Already celebrating.

He had no idea I was watching.

Alive.

Waiting.

The next morning, Richard entered the company headquarters expecting applause.

Instead...

he found police officers waiting.

His smile disappeared.

"What is this?"

Detective Carter stepped forward.

"Richard Hayes, you are under arrest for attempted murder, fraud, and conspiracy."

The entire lobby went silent.

Richard looked around in disbelief.

Then he saw me standing behind the officers.

Alive.

Calm.

Watching him.

For the first time...

Richard looked afraid.

"You're supposed to be dead."

I walked closer.

"No, Richard."

I looked him directly in the eyes.

"Your plan was supposed to be perfect."

A pause.

"But you forgot one thing."

His face tightened.

"What?"

May you like

I smiled.

"You married someone who always keeps receipts."
