Chapter 1: The Room That Could Not Lie

The silence inside the Hawthorne Museum was heavier than the steel doors surrounding them.
For the first time in his life, Grant Holloway looked like a man who had finally discovered fear.
Not the temporary kind.
Not the fear of losing money or a business deal.
A deeper fear.
The fear of losing control.
Mara Vale stood in the center of the gallery, surrounded by the same people who had watched her get hurt minutes earlier.
But everything had changed.
The woman they ignored was now the only person in the room who knew exactly what would happen next.
Security officers moved through the crowd, scanning faces, collecting statements, and securing every entrance.
A large screen descended from the ceiling.
The museum cameras activated.
Grant looked up.
Then he looked at Mara.
“You planned this?”
Mara tilted her head slightly.
“No.”
Her voice was calm.
“I prepared for the possibility that someone like you would need to be stopped.”
Grant laughed nervously.
“You think a few cameras and security guards will destroy me?”
Mara looked around the room.
At the senator.
The judges.
The executives.
The donors.
“All I need is the truth.”
The screen flickered.
Then the footage appeared.
The entire room watched Grant grab her arm.
They watched him push her.
They watched every person nearby turn away.
The laughter disappeared.
The smiles vanished.
Nobody could pretend anymore.
Grant’s face hardened.
“Turn that off.”
Nobody moved.
“Turn it off!”
His voice echoed through the museum.
May you like
But this time…
Nobody obeyed.
