CHAPTER 1 — The Secret Behind The Uniform

The ballroom remained frozen.

No one spoke.

No one dared move.

All eyes were on Helen, the woman everyone had ignored for years.

The same woman who had quietly cleaned their tables, served their drinks, and walked through these halls like she was invisible.

But now...

The entire room was looking at her.

Tony stood there, unable to take his eyes away.

Twenty years.

Twenty years of believing the woman he loved had disappeared forever.

"Helen..." he whispered again.

Her eyes filled with tears.

She wanted to say so much.

She wanted to scream that she never left him.

That she never stopped loving him.

That she never stopped hoping he would find her.

But she couldn't.

Not in front of everyone.

Not while her son was holding onto her like she was the only safe place in the world.

The little boy buried his face against her shoulder.

"Mommy... I thought you would never come."

Those words broke something inside Tony.

He looked at the child.

Then at Helen.

Then back at the child.

The resemblance was impossible to ignore.

The same eyes.

The same small smile.

The same birthmark near his cheek.

The truth hit him like a storm.

"He's my son..."

Tony's voice trembled.

The bride, Vanessa, stepped forward angrily.

"Tony, don't make a scene. This woman is trying to ruin our wedding."

Helen lowered her eyes.

She had heard those words before.

A woman like her was never supposed to stand beside someone like Tony.

She was only the maid.

Only someone people looked through.

But Tony shook his head.

"No."

Everyone looked at him.

"She didn't ruin anything."

He pointed toward Helen.

"She is the biggest part of my life that I lost."

The room went silent.

Then an elderly hotel manager slowly walked forward.

"Mr. Tony..."

His voice was nervous.

"But you need to know the truth."

Tony turned.

"What truth?"

The manager looked at Helen.

"I knew she was here all these years."

Tony froze.

"What?"

Helen closed her eyes.

The secret she had protected for two decades was finally coming out.

The manager continued.

"She never disappeared."

"She stayed close because someone threatened to take her child away if she ever returned."

Tony's face changed.

"Who?"

Nobody answered.

Until Helen slowly looked toward Vanessa.

And Vanessa's expression suddenly changed.
