Chapter 15 - THE TRUTH MIREYA WAS WAITING TO TELL

I thought I knew who my enemies were.

I was wrong.

The truth was bigger.

And closer.

Rachel helped me recover the files from the memory card that night.

The footage loaded.

The room went silent.

There was the living room.

The guests.

The moment Mireya reached for her inhaler.

The moment Tove grabbed it.

The moment she threw it.

But this time…

There was something different.

Something I never saw before.

Before Tove threw the inhaler…

Someone whispered in her ear.

Someone standing behind the crowd.

A person nobody noticed.

Rachel paused the video.

“Zoom in.”

The image became clearer.

My heart stopped.

Because I knew that person.

It was my older brother.

Nathan.

I couldn’t move.

“No.”

Rachel looked at me.

“Cullen…”

“No.”

I stood up.

“That doesn’t make sense.”

But deep down…

I knew.

Because Nathan had always been jealous.

Of my career.

My family.

My life.

The next morning, I confronted him.

He was sitting in my father’s old house.

Calm.

Like he expected me.

“You found out.”

Those were his first words.

Not “hello.”

Not “what happened?”

Just…

“You found out.”

I stared at him.

“Why?”

He looked at me.

“Why do you think?”

“Because you hate me?”

He laughed.

“No.”

He stood up.

“Because you always got everything.”

I shook my head.

“This is about jealousy?”

“No.”

His voice became angry.

“This is about fairness.”

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

“You destroyed my daughter’s life because you thought I had too much?”

He looked away.

Then said something I will never forget.

“I didn’t think Mireya was part of the plan.”

My blood ran cold.

“What plan?”

Nathan stayed silent.

“Nathan.”

He looked at me.

And for the first time…

I saw fear in his eyes.

“They were never trying to take Mireya away.”

I stepped closer.

“Then what were they trying to do?”

He swallowed.

“The custody fight…”

A pause.

“It was just a distraction.”

My heart stopped.

“From what?”

Nathan looked at me.

And whispered:

“They were trying to take everything you own.”

The room went silent.

Then my phone rang.

It was Rachel.

Her voice was urgent.

“Cullen, you need to come back.”

“What happened?”

“We found the original documents.”

I held my breath.

“What documents?”

“The ones proving everything.”

A pause.

Then she said:

“But there’s a problem.”

“What?”

Her voice dropped.

“They were signed by someone in your family.”

I looked at Nathan.

And suddenly…

I understood.

The fight was never only about my daughter.

It was about betrayal.

From the people closest to me.

And now I had to choose.

May you like

Save my family…

or expose the people who destroyed it.
