Chapter 1: The Night They Tried to Break Her

The ballroom was filled with laughter, expensive champagne, and powerful people.

Everyone had gathered for what was supposed to be the most beautiful night of Emma Whitmore’s life.

Her engagement party.

The Whitmore family had invited the richest names in the city. Business owners, politicians, celebrities, and investors all stood beneath the crystal chandeliers, watching the future of the powerful Whitmore empire.

But nobody expected the night to become a public execution.

Emma stood frozen in the center of the ballroom as Margaret Whitmore, her fiancé’s mother, grabbed the fabric of her wedding gown.

“This dress cost over two hundred thousand dollars,” Margaret said loudly.

Her voice echoed through the room.

“And you thought you could wear something like this?”

Emma’s face turned pale.

“Mrs. Whitmore… please…”

Margaret smiled coldly.

“You still don’t understand your position, do you?”

Then, in front of hundreds of guests, she ripped the expensive white gown.

A wave of shock moved through the crowd.

Some guests looked away.

Others whispered.

But nobody stepped forward.

Emma looked toward Daniel, her fiancé.

The man who promised to protect her.

The man who said he loved her.

But Daniel only sighed.

“Emma,” he said, avoiding her eyes.

“Just apologize to my mother.”

Those words hurt more than the torn dress.

Because in that moment, Emma finally understood.

She was never going to be family.

She was only someone they planned to control.

Margaret lifted her chin proudly.

“You should be grateful we allowed you into our world.”

Emma lowered her head.

Everyone thought she was defeated.

Everyone thought she was just a poor girl who got lucky.

Until the ballroom doors opened.

A man in a black suit rushed inside.

“Madam!”

He walked toward Margaret holding a leather folder.

“Everything has been prepared.”

Margaret smiled.

Finally.

She opened the folder confidently.

But after a few seconds…

Her smile disappeared.

The folder was empty.

Completely empty.

The room became silent.

“What is this?” Margaret whispered.

The assistant looked confused.

“I don’t understand… the documents were inside.”

Emma suddenly stopped crying.

She slowly lifted her head.

And for the first time that night…

She smiled.

“You spent years investigating me.”

She looked directly at the Whitmore family.

“But you never discovered the truth.”

Everyone stared.

Emma stepped forward.

“You think you know who I am…”

May you like

A pause.

“But you have no idea.”
