Chapter 3 — The Secret Hidden in the Will

Detectives arrived within minutes.
While Juliette was being questioned, the Pierce family lawyer unlocked a sealed envelope that had remained untouched since Christopher's late grandfather passed away.
"The old chairman left instructions," he said.
"They were to be opened only if Emma's life was ever threatened."
Everyone stared.
Inside was a handwritten letter.
"If you are reading this, someone has tried to harm my great-granddaughter for money. I feared this day would come."
Attached to the letter was another document.
A revised will.
The lawyer adjusted his glasses before speaking.
"The inheritance was never meant to belong to Christopher."
Everyone looked at Emma.
"It belongs entirely to Emma... but only if she survives to adulthood."
The room fell into stunned silence.
Christopher closed his eyes.
All these years...
Emma had never been the obstacle.
She had always been the rightful heir.
Juliette hadn't tried to kill an unwanted child.
She had tried to eliminate the owner of the Pierce empire.
