Chapter 10 - LOCKER 317

Locker 317 contained no money.

No jewels.

No secret fortune.

It contained evidence.

The original ledger.

Audio tapes.

Contracts.

Photographs.

And one flash drive.

Elena brought everything to Rachel.

They worked until sunrise.

At 4:17 a.m., Rachel stopped the recording.

“Elena.”

“What?”

“Listen.”

She replayed it.

Marcus’s voice filled the room.

“If Thomas goes to the police, make him believe the girl was in the car.”

Elena froze.

Another voice answered.

“And Victoria?”

Marcus replied.

“She’ll do what she’s told.”

That was it.

Proof.

Not suspicion.

Not memories.

Proof.

Elena contacted federal prosecutors through her attorney.

By noon, an agreement was being negotiated.

Full cooperation.

Complete disclosure.

Mercer Global would open every record.

Elena would testify.

But Marcus still had one move left.

At 2:30 p.m., every television in Mercer Global’s lobby switched to breaking news.

Marcus Vale stood outside his headquarters.

Reporters surrounded him.

“I have spent decades treating Elena Mercer like family.”

Elena watched silently.

Marcus continued.

“Unfortunately, I recently discovered evidence suggesting she used Mercer Global to facilitate an enormous financial fraud.”

Rachel whispered:

“He’s framing you.”

Elena watched Marcus smile for the cameras.

“No.”

She picked up her phone.

“He’s giving me the stage.”
