Chapter 4: The Last Flame

Dawn painted the palace in warm gold.

The kingdom gathered before the royal balcony.

Thousands filled the square below.

Some had come to witness a coronation.

Others came simply to see whether the miracle was real.

Mara stood beside the king, wearing neither jewels nor silk.

She had refused every extravagant gown offered to her.

Instead, she wore a simple ivory dress embroidered with a single golden phoenix.

The king smiled proudly.

"You don't have to become queen today."

Mara looked toward the city where she had spent seventeen years living as an ordinary girl.

"I know."

She turned to Rowan, whose wounded shoulder was wrapped in fresh bandages.

"You are the man who taught me kindness."

Then she embraced the king.

"And you are the father who never stopped loving me."

The old king closed his eyes as tears rolled down his face.

For the first time in seventeen years...

His family was whole again.

Lord Victor was captured before sunset while attempting to flee the kingdom.

Lady Celeste was stripped of every royal title and sentenced to spend the rest of her life in exile, her name erased from the line of succession.

Months later, the king formally introduced Princess Mara as his rightful heir.

Yet she ruled differently from every monarch before her.

She ordered the palace gates to remain open every week so common people could seek justice without fear.

She built orphanages in every province.

She established schools where servants' children learned beside nobles.

And above the throne, carved into white marble, stood a single golden phoenix with four simple words beneath it:

"Truth Always Finds Light."

The kingdom never forgot the day a servant girl walked into a ballroom wearing nothing but a soaked brown dress...

...and left as the lost princess who restored both a family and a kingdom.
