Chapter 15 - THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK

================================================================================

Forty-eight hours later, the private viewing lounge of the Credit Suisse subterranean vault in Zurich, Switzerland, was dead silent save for the hum of climate control.

Victoria sat at the polished steel table. Box 7714 lay open in front of her.

Inside was no cash, no gold, and no bearer bonds.

There were only three digital flash drives and a complete audio recording dating back to November 14, 2022.

Victoria plugged the first drive into her secure terminal. The screen flickered to life, displaying a live satellite surveillance feed of a secluded, snow-covered estate high in the Swiss Alps near St. Moritz.

Sitting on the terrace of the chalet, wrapped in a heavy wool coat and sipping espresso, was Arthur Sterling. Older, gray-haired, but unmistakably alive.

Sitting across from him was the federal judge who had presided over Julian’s initial corporate fraud hearing three years prior.

Victoria pressed play on the audio file.

Arthur Sterling’s raspy, arrogant voice filled the vault room:

"Let the boy poison her. Julian is too stupid to see past his own greed. Once Victoria is in the ground and Julian takes the fall, Thomas executes the corporate restructuring. We swallow Vance Enterprises whole, and the Vance name is wiped off Wall Street forever."

Victoria let out a cold, sharp laugh that echoed off the stainless-steel safe deposit boxes.

She reached for her satellite phone, dialing Marcus Kane’s direct line in New York.

"Marcus," she said.

"Victoria. The stock market opens in fifteen minutes," Marcus replied, his voice tense over the encrypted satellite link. "The media is already circling the building. The headlines are screaming about Julian’s arrest and Thomas Sterling’s fraud indictment."

"Good," Victoria said calmly. "Release the Zurich files to Interpol, the Department of Justice, and the Swiss Federal Police."

"All of them?"

"All of them," she commanded. "And Marcus?"

"Yes, Victoria?"

"Tell our media relations team to schedule an emergency press conference on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange at 9:30 AM sharp."

"What are you going to announce?"

A slow, devastating smile spread across Victoria Vance’s face. She looked at her reflection in the polished steel of the vault door—stronger, colder, and more powerful than she had ever been in her life.

"I’m announcing the hostile takeover and total liquidation of Sterling Global Industrials," Victoria said, every word hitting with the finality of a guillotine. "They wanted my empire. Now I’m taking theirs."

She stood up, locked the safety deposit box, and dropped the brass key into her pocket.

Outside the vault, the morning sun broke over the snowy peaks of Zurich, cold and blindingly bright.

Victoria Vance walked out into the light, ready to burn down an entire dynasty.

The game was over.

And she was the last one standing.
