Chapter 2: The Truth Hidden For Twenty Years

Evelyn followed Richard into a private room inside the wedding hall.

The guests outside were still whispering.

Nobody understood why the bride had abandoned her own wedding photos to stand beside a homeless child.

But Evelyn no longer cared.

She threw the old photograph onto the table.

“Tell me the truth.”

Richard remained silent.

“Who is he?”

His jaw tightened.

“You don’t want to know.”

Evelyn stepped closer.

“I spent twenty years believing my baby died.”

Her voice cracked.

“Twenty years.”

Richard looked away.

And that was the moment she knew.

He knew.

“You were there that night,” she whispered.

Richard said nothing.

Evelyn felt the anger rising inside her.

“My father told me my baby was stillborn. The hospital confirmed it. Everyone told me to accept it.”

Her eyes filled with tears.

“But now this boy appears with a picture of me holding him?”

She pointed toward the door.

“Who is he?”

Richard finally spoke.

“His name is Noah.”

The room became silent.

“He is your son.”

The words crushed everything.

Evelyn grabbed the table for support.

“No…”

Richard continued.

“Your father didn’t want a scandal. You were the future face of the Carter family. A child born before marriage would destroy your reputation.”

Evelyn’s face turned cold.

“So they took him from me?”

Richard looked down.

“Yes.”

“Who helped them?”

Richard hesitated.

That hesitation answered everything.

“My father.”

Evelyn froze.

The man she was about to marry.

The man she trusted.

His family had been involved.

“Why are you telling me this now?”

Richard looked toward the window.

“Because your father is planning to take Noah away again.”

Evelyn’s blood ran cold.

“What?”

“He knows Noah found you.”

A knock came at the door.

Everyone stopped.

One of the security guards entered.

“Ms. Carter…”

His voice trembled.

“There are men outside asking about the boy.”

Evelyn immediately understood.

They weren’t there to talk.

They were there to erase the truth.

She walked back outside.

Noah was still standing where she left him.

Alone.

Afraid.

She knelt beside him.

For the first time in twenty years, she touched the face of her child.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered.

Noah looked confused.

“For what?”

May you like

Evelyn held back her tears.

“For not finding you sooner.”
