Chapter 2 — The Room Beneath The Mansion

Juan stood frozen in front of the mansion, the rusty key resting heavily in his palm.

For years, this house had represented everything he believed about his family.

Power.

Honor.

Legacy.

But now, every stone wall felt like it was hiding a lie.

The woman beside him, Maria, leaned against his shoulder, exhausted from the years of suffering she had endured.

Juan looked at her bruised face again.

The woman he had mourned.

The woman everyone told him had abandoned him.

The woman who had disappeared without a trace.

“How long?” Juan asked quietly.

Maria lowered her eyes.

“Eight years.”

The answer hit him harder than any accusation.

Eight years.

Eight years of searching.

Eight years of believing she had chosen to leave.

Eight years of carrying anger toward someone who had never betrayed him.

Juan slowly turned toward his mother.

“Why?”

Isabella remained standing on the stairs, completely calm.

“Because you were destroying your future for a woman who did not belong in this family.”

Juan’s eyes darkened.

“You locked the mother of my child away because of your pride?”

Isabella’s expression hardened.

“I protected this family.”

“No,” Juan replied coldly.

“You protected your control.”

For the first time, Isabella’s face showed a slight crack.

A moment of fear.

But it disappeared quickly.

“You have no idea what you are about to uncover.”

Juan looked at the rusty key in his hand.

“Then I will find out.”

Inside the mansion, every step felt heavier.

Maria followed closely behind him as they entered a hidden corridor behind an old library.

The key fit perfectly into a small, forgotten door covered with dust.

Juan hesitated for a second.

Then he turned the key.

The door opened with a painful sound.

Inside was a small underground room.

The air was cold.

The walls were covered with old documents, photographs, and handwritten letters.

Juan walked slowly inside.

Then he saw it.

A picture.

Maria.

Pregnant.

Standing beside him years ago.

But underneath the picture was something that made his blood run cold.

A document with his mother's signature.

A confession.

Juan picked it up with shaking hands.

“She knew…”

Maria whispered.

“She knew I was carrying your child.”

Juan continued reading.

The document revealed that Isabella had paid someone to fake Maria’s disappearance.

She had created a story that Maria had run away.

She had destroyed their relationship to protect the family reputation.

But there was something else.

Something worse.

A second name appeared on the document.

Someone who had helped her.

May you like

Someone Juan never expected.

His own uncle.
