Chapter 8 - THE TRIAL OF THE LOST PRINCESS

The council chamber was packed.
Severin stood at its center.
He had returned to the palace openly.
That was how confident he had become.
When Elara entered, every voice stopped.
Severin smiled.
âArrest her.â
Nobody moved.
Elara raised Aldric's signet.
Several council members immediately stood.
Severin's smile disappeared.
âThe King gave this to me.â
âHe was delirious.â
A voice came from behind Elara.
âHe was perfectly conscious.â
Celestine entered.
Severin stared at her.
âYou.â
Celestine removed the black ring.
Then threw it at his feet.
âYou spent my entire life telling me that crown belonged to me.â
She looked around the chamber.
âYou lied.â
Garrick rose from his chair.
âCelestine.â
She turned toward her biological father.
He had barely spoken to her throughout her childhood.
Now she understood why.
She had never been his daughter.
Only his investment.
Celestine faced the council.
âSeverin Vale and Duke Garrick planned to murder King Aldric.â
Chaos erupted.
Severin laughed.
âBased on what evidence?â
Elara produced the letter.
Severin's expression changed.
Then Rowan entered with soldiers loyal to Aldric.
âWe also searched Saint Orlan.â
He placed a ledger on the table.
Payments.
Names.
Dates.
Bribes to physicians.
Payments to guards.
Money sent to the men who hunted Mara.
The conspiracy was exposed.
But Garrick did not panic.
Instead, he smiled.
Then the chamber doors burst open.
Dozens of armed soldiers entered.
Northern soldiers.
Garrick's army.
âYou're all forgetting something.â
Garrick drew his sword.
âEvidence matters only when someone has the power to enforce the law.â
He pointed the blade at Elara.
âAnd today, power belongs to me.â
Severin looked surprised.
That was the moment Elara understood.
Even Severin had miscalculated.
Garrick had never intended to share the throne.
He raised his hand.
Northern soldiers seized Severin.
âWhat are you doing?â
Garrick smiled.
âRemoving the last man who can testify against me.â
Then he turned toward Elara and Celestine.
âAnd the two women who can challenge my claim.â
May you like
The palace doors slammed shut.
The coup had begun.
