Chapter 11 - THE BROTHER'S SECRET

Carmen knew Sebastián had been negotiating with developers before her death.
She had discovered payments.
Private meetings.
A hidden agreement promising Sebastián millions if El Nogal was sold.
She documented everything.
Dates.
Names.
Account numbers.
And one final warning.
If anything happened to the trust documents, Rodrigo was to give the evidence to authorities.
Rodrigo sat in the bank conference room staring at his dead wife's handwriting.
Sebastián hadn't simply become greedy.
He had been planning this for years.
The police reopened the investigation.
Esteban agreed to cooperate.
He gave them text messages.
Payment records.
A voicemail.
Sebastián's voice was unmistakable.
“I don't care how you do it. I need Rodrigo distracted while those papers disappear.”
It wasn't a direct order to start the fire.
But it was enough.
Police obtained a warrant.
Sebastián disappeared before they could arrest him.
That evening, Rodrigo brought everyone back to El Nogal.
“Stay inside tonight.”
Valentina looked at him.
“You think he'll come here?”
“I don't know.”
Mateo heard.
He didn't sleep.
At 11:43 p.m., the ranch dogs began barking.
Then stopped.
Mateo went to the window.
A dark SUV stood near the trees.
His blood went cold.
He ran toward Rodrigo's room.
Before he reached it, glass shattered downstairs.
Valentina screamed.
Rodrigo ran into the hallway.
“Get the boys!”
He descended the stairs.
Sebastián stood in the kitchen.

He wasn't alone.
And in his hand was a gasoline can.
