Chapter 12 - THE TRAP

Dominic snapped the flash drive in half.
“Where is the real evidence?”
Isabella said nothing.
He grabbed her wheelchair.
Luca’s voice became deadly.
“Take your hands off her.”
Dominic shouted, “WHERE IS IT?”
Isabella smiled again.
Naomi looked at her.
Then she saw it.
A tiny red light beneath the wheelchair.
A transmitter.
Naomi’s heart jumped.
Isabella had never come to surrender.
She had come wired.
Dominic followed Naomi’s eyes.
His face changed.
“No.”
Police sirens erupted outside.
Then federal vehicles surrounded the terminal.
Dominic turned on Elena.
“You idiot!”
Elena backed away.
Gunfire exploded from the upper level.
Marco shoved Naomi behind a column.
Luca charged toward Isabella.
Vivian grabbed Naomi’s hair.
“You!”
Naomi spun and punched her.
Vivian hit the floor.
“You little bitch!”
She lunged.
The women crashed against a metal railing.
Vivian clawed at Naomi’s face.
Naomi drove her knee upward.
Vivian screamed.
“You were supposed to disappear!”
Naomi froze.
“What?”
Vivian’s rage made her careless.
“Your father should’ve killed Dominic when he had the chance!”
Naomi grabbed her wrist.
“You knew my father?”
Vivian laughed.
“My father knew him.”
Naomi’s face went cold.
“Who was your father?”
Vivian looked almost proud.
“District Attorney Richard Cole.”
Naomi remembered the list.
Cole.
One of Dominic’s names.
“Your father helped Dominic kill mine.”
Vivian’s smile answered.
Naomi hit her.
Hard.
Vivian fell against the railing.
Behind them, Dante broke free using the metal bar.
He tackled one of Dominic’s men.
Luca reached Isabella.
Marco fired toward the platform.
Federal agents stormed the entrances.
Dominic ran.
Naomi saw him first.
“He’s getting away!”
Luca looked.
Dominic disappeared through a service tunnel.
Luca went after him.
Naomi followed.
“Stay back!” he shouted.
“No!”
The tunnel was dark and wet.
Dominic fired behind him.
Luca shoved Naomi into an alcove.
A bullet struck concrete inches from his head.
Naomi grabbed his jacket.
“Luca!”
“I’m fine.”
“You’re insane.”
“Probably.”
They chased Dominic toward the river access.
At the end of the tunnel, Dominic stood beside a speedboat.
He turned.
Raised his gun.
Naomi saw it.
Luca didn’t.
“DOWN!”
She shoved Luca.
The gun fired.
Pain exploded through Naomi’s side.
She hit the ground.
Luca caught her.
His face changed completely.
“No.”
Dominic ran.
Luca didn’t follow.
He dropped beside Naomi.
“No. No, no, no.”
Naomi looked down.
Blood spread beneath her coat.
Luca pressed both hands against the wound.
“Stay with me.”
She tried to smile.
“You sound scared.”
“I am.”
Her vision blurred.
“Good.”
“Naomi.”
“You needed humility.”
“Don’t joke.”
“Bossy.”
“Naomi!”
May you like
Her eyes closed.
The last thing she heard was Luca Moretti begging.
