Daniel Carter arrived at Robert's house that evening.

He didn't come angry.

He came calm.

That frightened Elena more.

"I know you're upset," Daniel said.

"You misunderstood what happened."

Elena stared at him.

"Misunderstood?"

Her voice shook.

"You broke my ribs."

Daniel's expression hardened.

"You pushed me too far."

Those words changed everything.

For months, Elena blamed herself.

But hearing him say it again made her realize something.

Daniel wasn't sorry.

He was only angry he lost control.

Robert stepped forward.

"You leave my daughter and grandson alone."

Daniel smiled.

"You think this changes anything?"
