THE MAFIA BOSS CAME HOME EARLY—AND CAUGHT HIS FIANCÉE HURTING HIS BABY

THE MAFIA BOSS CAME HOME EARLY—AND CAUGHT HIS FIANCÉE HURTING HIS BABY

Serena thought the nanny was the only witness.

Then slow, terrifying footsteps echoed from the darkness behind her.

She froze.

Victor Blackwood was home early.

And he had seen everything.

“Stop!”

“You’re breaking his arm!”

Lily’s scream ripped through the marble foyer of the Blackwood mansion.

Fourteen-month-old Ethan was on the floor.

Crying.

Gasping.

Terrified.

Serena Montigue had one hand wrapped around his tiny arm, dragging him across the marble as if he were nothing more than a discarded toy.

His face had turned from red to a frightening shade of purple.

His screams were getting weaker.

And Lily knew something was terribly wrong.

The little boy she had cared for like her own for the past six months was slipping into shock.

Lily lunged forward.

Her bare feet slid across the freezing marble.

Her hands reached desperately for Ethan.

Only one thought remained in her mind.

Save him.

But Serena moved first.

Her heel slammed into Lily’s stomach.

The impact knocked the air from Lily’s lungs and sent her crashing onto the stone floor.

Pain tore through her body.

But Lily barely noticed.

Her eyes never left Ethan.

His little arm hung at an unnatural angle.

His face twisted in pain.

His cries had faded into weak, broken sounds that terrified her more than the screaming had.

Serena slowly turned toward Lily.

Her expression was perfectly calm.

This was the same woman who smiled for cameras at charity galas.

The same elegant socialite who posed beside Victor Blackwood as if she belonged at his side.

The same woman who was weeks away from marrying one of the most feared mafia bosses in Chicago.

And now she stood over his injured child without a trace of fear.

“Touch him again,” Serena said quietly, pressing her heel against Lily’s abdomen, “and I’ll make you disappear.”

Lily struggled for air.

Serena leaned closer.

“Nobody cares about a nobody like you.”

A cold smile touched her lips.

“You really think Victor is going to believe some cheap nanny over his future wife?”

Lily’s hands trembled against the marble.

Her stomach burned.

Her knees were scraped raw.

But she started crawling.

One inch.

Then another.

Toward Ethan.

Serena watched her with disgust.

What she didn’t notice was the tall figure standing beyond the foyer.

Motionless.

Silent.

Watching.

Then—

A polished black shoe stepped out of the shadows.

May you like

Serena’s smile vanished.

Victor Blackwood had heard every word.
