Chapter 11 - The Truth About Elena

“DON’T LET GO!”
Isabella hung over the edge of the hospital roof.
Alessandro gripped her wrist with both hands.
For one wild second, Isabella looked up at him in disbelief.
“You’re saving me?”
“You’re going to answer for what you did.”
Detectives pulled her back onto the roof.
She collapsed.
Handcuffs snapped around her wrists.
Alessandro immediately turned to Maria.
“Mom.”
She clung to him.
“I’m sorry.”
“For what?”
“For every secret.”
He held her.
“We deal with that later.”
Isabella was taken downstairs under guard.
But her final words wouldn’t leave Alessandro’s mind.
Ask Enzo who killed Emma’s mother.
Three hours later, Alessandro sat across from Enzo in an interrogation room.
Enzo looked tired.
But not afraid.
Alessandro placed Vittorio’s original will on the table.
Enzo stared at it.
“What’s that?”
“Dad’s real will.”
“Don’t call him Dad.”
“You should.”
Enzo’s eyes narrowed.
Alessandro slid it across.
“Read page four.”
Enzo did.
His face slowly changed.
Thirty percent.
His name.
His inheritance.
“No.”
“He planned to tell everyone.”
“No.”
“He wrote me a letter too.”
Enzo shoved the paper away.
“It’s fake.”
“You know his signature.”
Enzo stared at the document.
Tears appeared in his eyes, though he tried to hide them.
“He told me I’d never be a Romano.”
“When?”
“The night before he died.”
Alessandro frowned.
“That makes no sense.”
“He said I was an embarrassment.”
“Dad wrote this four days earlier.”
“He changed his mind.”
“Or someone lied to you.”
Enzo looked up.
“Who?”
Alessandro leaned forward.
“Tell me what happened to Elena.”
Enzo’s expression shut down.
“I don’t know.”
“Isabella says you do.”
“She’s trying to save herself.”
“Elena discovered your fake vendors.”
Silence.
“She told my father.”
Enzo looked away.
“She died eighteen months ago.”
Still nothing.
“Her car went off a bridge.”
Enzo’s jaw tightened.
“Accidents happen.”
Alessandro slammed both hands on the table.
“Her daughter is six!”
Enzo flinched.
“You kidnapped that little girl after her mother died because of something you did.”
“I didn’t kill Elena.”
“Then who did?”
Enzo’s eyes shifted toward the camera.
Alessandro noticed.
“You’re afraid.”
Enzo laughed bitterly.
“Of you?”
“No.”
Alessandro sat back.
“Of whoever is watching.”
Enzo went pale.
That was enough.
“Who else is involved?”
Enzo lowered his voice.
“You think Isabella came up with all this?”
“Who?”
“She was useful. Angry. Easy to control.”
“Who controlled her?”
Enzo leaned closer.
“The person who’s been controlling all of us.”
Alessandro stared at him.
“Name.”
Enzo swallowed.
Then he whispered two words.
“Uncle Dominic.”
Alessandro stopped breathing.
Dominic Romano.
Vittorio’s older brother.
The man who had practically raised Alessandro after his father died.
The man sitting on the board of Romano Holdings.
The man Emma called Grandpa Dom.
Enzo whispered, “And if Dominic knows I told you…”
May you like
He looked toward the camera.
“Emma is still in danger.”
