CHAPTER 1: The Girl Who Stopped Death

The billionaire’s hand remained frozen above the table.

For thirty seconds, nobody moved.

Nobody dared to breathe.

The silver capsule sat between his fingers like a piece of evidence from a nightmare.

E.V.

Two letters.

Two memories.

Two wounds that had never truly healed.

Eleanor Vale.

His only daughter.

The girl he had buried seven years ago.

The girl everyone told him had died from a sudden illness.

The girl whose death had destroyed the man he used to be.

The billionaire slowly looked at the woman across the room.

Victoria Hart.

His late daughter’s closest friend.

The woman who had cried beside Eleanor’s grave.

The woman who had comforted him when he thought his world had ended.

The woman who was now standing there with fear written across her face.

“Victoria,” he said quietly.

The entire room shifted.

Because everyone heard the change in his voice.

It was no longer the voice of a wealthy old man.

It was the voice of someone who had just discovered a betrayal buried beneath years of grief.

Victoria forced a smile.

“This is ridiculous. You’re actually believing a child from the street?”

The girl flinched.

Not because of the words.

Because of the way Victoria looked at her.

Like she wasn’t afraid of being exposed.

She was afraid the girl was still alive.

The billionaire noticed.

And that was enough.

“Bring me the security footage,” he ordered.

Victoria’s expression changed.

“Why would you need that?”

“Because innocent people don’t fear cameras.”

Silence.

Ten minutes later, the footage appeared on the giant screen inside the dining hall.

Everyone watched.

Victoria entering the kitchen.

Victoria standing beside his plate.

Victoria holding a small silver container.

Then…

Victoria looking around before dropping something into his dessert.

A wave of horror moved through the guests.

The woman who had spent years pretending to be family had just been exposed.

But the billionaire noticed something else.

The little girl wasn’t watching the screen.

She was watching Victoria.

Like she had seen this face before.

“Who are you?” he asked softly.

The girl lowered her eyes.

“My name is Lily.”

“Where did you get that capsule?”

The girl hesitated.

Then whispered:

“From my mother.”

The billionaire’s heart stopped.

“Your mother?”

Lily slowly pulled out an old photograph.

A young woman stood beside Eleanor.

His daughter.

The woman in the photo was holding a baby.

Lily.

The billionaire stared at the picture.

Because the woman beside Eleanor was someone he recognized.

Someone who had disappeared seven years ago.

Someone everyone believed was dead.

His daughter’s personal assistant.

Amelia Rose.

And the girl’s next words changed everything.

“My mother said Eleanor didn’t die from an illness.”

May you like

The room became colder.

“She was murdered.”
