Chapter 2: The Door Nobody Could Open

Chapter 2: The Door Nobody Could Open
Rosa had worked inside the Harrington mansion for twenty years.
She knew every room.
Every hallway.
Every hidden corner.
But there was one door she was never allowed to touch.
The old wooden door on the second floor.
The family called it "the storage room."
But Rosa knew better.
Storage rooms didn't have three locks.
They didn't have cameras pointed at them.
And they didn't make a little boy tremble when he looked at them.
Mateo stood beside her, staring at the door.
His anger was gone.
Only fear remained.
"Mateo..." Rosa whispered. "Who told you not to talk?"
The boy looked down.
His fingers squeezed the edge of his shirt.
"She said Daddy would get angry."
Rosa's heart sank.
"Who said that?"
Mateo didn't answer.
He didn't need to.
A voice suddenly came from behind them.
"What exactly are you doing here?"
Rosa slowly turned.
Victor Harrington stood at the end of the hallway.
Mateo's father.
The billionaire who owned everything.
The mansion.
The companies.
The family's reputation.
His face was calm.
Too calm.
His eyes moved from the broken statue...
to Mateo...
then finally to the locked door.
"Rosa."
His voice became colder.
"Take Mateo downstairs."
Rosa stood up.
For the first time in years, she didn't immediately obey.
"Mr. Harrington..."
She looked at Mateo.
"Something is wrong."
Victor's expression changed slightly.
"Children break things. That's all."
But Rosa noticed something.
His hand was shaking.
Only for a second.
But she saw it.
May you like
Because Rosa had spent twenty years watching people hide their fear.
And Victor Harrington was afraid.
