Isabella was arrested before midnight.
But Marcus didn’t feel victorious.
He sat beside Khloe’s hospital bed, holding her hand while doctors monitored the baby.
For hours, he didn’t speak.
He just watched her sleep.
When Khloe finally opened her eyes, she saw him.
“Is the baby okay?”
Those were her first words.
Not anger.
Not revenge.
Not questions about Isabella.
Only their child.
Marcus looked away.
Because that broke him.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered.
Khloe stared at him.
“For what?”
“For not seeing what was happening.”
The truth hurt.
Because Marcus realized he had ignored the signs.
The strange messages.
The uncomfortable moments.
The way Isabella always found reasons to be near him.
He had dismissed them.
And Khloe paid the price.
But before they could heal, Detective Ryan Cole arrived.
“There’s something you need to know.”
Marcus stood.
“What?”
Ryan placed a folder on the table.
“Isabella didn’t attack your wife because she wanted your marriage.”
Khloe frowned.
“Then why?”
The detective opened the file.
“Because she was afraid you would discover what she did three years ago.”
Marcus froze.
“What happened three years ago?”
Ryan looked at him.
“Something connected to your family.”
Inside the folder was an old photograph.
