💔 On my wedding night, my husband sent me downstairs to sleep on the couch so his mother could take our bed.

He said she was “too drunk” to sleep anywhere else.

“Don’t make this complicated,” Daniel whispered.

So I swallowed my humiliation, grabbed a pillow, and went downstairs.

He promised he’d join me later.

He never did.

All night, I heard footsteps above me.

Low voices.

Drawers opening.

And once, the unmistakable sound of something heavy being dragged across the bedroom floor.

By sunrise, I wasn’t embarrassed anymore.

I was suspicious. 😹

I walked upstairs and found Daniel and his mother, Margaret, lying fully dressed on top of our bed.

Then something tiny caught my eye.

A gold notary seal stuck to the white sheet.

My blood ran cold.

I knew that seal.

It belonged to Harold Finch—Daniel’s family attorney.

The same attorney who had handled our prenuptial agreement.

Then I saw my bridal document folder sitting open on the desk.

I had locked it inside my suitcase before going downstairs.

Now the original prenup was gone.

In its place was a different version.

And one new clause changed everything.

It gave the Bennett family control over valuable rights tied to my inheritance.

At the bottom of the page was my signature.

There was only one problem.

I had never signed it. 🚹

I looked at Daniel.

“What the hell is this?”

He didn’t answer.

Margaret didn’t either.

They just exchanged one quick glance.

And in that second, I knew.

This had been planned.

But then I lifted the forged prenup and found another document underneath.

An old marriage certificate.

Eight years old.

Daniel’s full name was printed across it.

Beside another woman’s name.

I searched every page.

Every date.

Every legal notation.

There was no divorce decree.

No annulment.

No proof that marriage had ever ended. 😳

I stared at the man I had called my husband for less than twelve hours.

Suddenly, the stolen documents, the forged signature, his mother taking over our bedroom, and the noises I had heard all night made terrifying sense.

They hadn’t ruined my wedding night by accident.

They had used it as cover.
