Chapter 3: The Sister Who Lost Everything

Security escorted Ethan away from the ballroom before dinner was even served.

Lauren tried to follow him.

He pulled his arm away.

"Don't touch me."

Her confidence disappeared.

"Ethan... listen to me..."

"You said this would work."

"You promised we'd have everything."

Guests moved aside as the two of them argued in the middle of the dance floor.

Neither noticed dozens of phones recording every second.

Megan quietly stepped onto the stage one last time.

"I have one final announcement."

The room fell silent again.

She smiled—not with revenge, but with relief.

"My grandfather taught me something before he died."

She looked directly at Lauren.

"He said that the people who deserve your trust are the ones who would protect you even if you had nothing."

Her eyes shifted to Ethan.

"Tonight, both of you proved exactly who you are."

She removed her engagement ring.

Without hesitation...

she placed it on the head table beside Ethan's untouched champagne glass.

"The wedding is canceled."

No applause followed.

Only silence.

Because everyone understood they had just witnessed the end of a family.

Lauren suddenly burst into tears.

"Megan... please..."

"We're sisters."

Megan looked at her for several long seconds.

Then she answered softly.

"No."

"We were."

May you like

She turned around...

and walked out of the ballroom without looking back.
