Chapter 2: The Family Secret

Three days later, Lorraine arrived at the cabin.

She did not come with an apology.

She came with anger.

Ethan opened the door and saw his mother standing there in an expensive coat, her expression cold.

"You embarrassed me," she said.

Ethan stared at her.

"You embarrassed yourself."

Lorraine ignored the comment.

"You think Sophie is worth destroying your relationship with your own family?"

Ethan looked back at the living room.

Sophie was sitting with Noah, helping him color.

A simple moment.

A peaceful moment.

Something Lorraine had never valued.

"Yes," Ethan answered.

"She is."

Those words hurt Lorraine more than any legal document.

Because she finally understood.

She had spent years believing Ethan belonged to her.

But he never did.

He was her son.

Not her possession.

Then Lorraine revealed something she had kept hidden for years.

"Your father didn't want you to know this."

Ethan's expression changed.

"What?"

She took a small envelope from her purse.

Inside was an old document.

A revised family trust agreement.

"The original trust wasn't supposed to give me control forever."

She looked away.

"Your father wanted you to manage everything when you turned thirty-five."

Ethan stared at the paper.

"So you lied?"

Lorraine said nothing.

Because silence was the answer.

She had spent years manipulating the trust.

Using his father's wishes as a weapon.

Using money to control everyone around her.

Sophie slowly walked closer.

She didn't look angry.

She looked disappointed.

"Why would you do that?"

Lorraine finally broke.

"Because I was afraid."

Everyone went quiet.

"For the first time in my life, I was afraid of losing everything."

Ethan looked at her.

"And because of that fear, you almost destroyed your own family."

May you like

Lorraine lowered her head.

For the first time, she had no excuse.
