Chapter 3: The Truth They Buried

While surgeons treated my injuries, Arthur never left the hospital.
He sat beside my bed in silence.
Finally, I reached for his hand.
"I tried to tell you."
Arthur lowered his eyes.
"I know."
Tears filled mine.
"I didn't marry Ethan for his money."
"I thought he loved me."
Arthur gently squeezed my hand.
"He never loved you."
"He loved the Sterling name."
Henderson entered quietly.
"We found something."
He placed a thick folder on the table.
Inside were shell companies.
Forged signatures.
Hidden offshore accounts.
Bribes.
Insurance fraud.
Money laundering.
And dozens of emails proving Ethan had planned everything long before our wedding.
The marriage...
The abuse...
Even the pregnancy I had lost months earlier.
None of it had been an accident.
Arthur closed the folder.
His jaw tightened.
"So this was never about divorce."
Henderson answered.
"No."
"It was about stealing your empire."
Arthur stood.

"They made one fatal mistake."
"They thought my daughter had no one left."
