Chapter 2: The Woman Who Saved My Mother

Vanessa knew something was wrong three days later.
She noticed her credit cards stopped working.
Her private accounts were frozen.
The luxury car she loved was suddenly unavailable.
She called me immediately.
"Daniel, what's happening?"
I answered calmly.
"We need to talk."
She arrived home expecting an argument.
Instead, she found my attorney sitting at the dining table.
Her smile disappeared.
"What is this?"
I placed a folder in front of her.
"Evidence."
She opened it.
The first page showed photographs of my mother's injuries.
The second showed medical reports.
The third showed screenshots from the security footage.
Her face changed.
Only for a second.
But I saw it.
The fear.
"You recorded me?"
"No," I replied.
"You recorded yourself."
She stood up.
"You can't do this to me."
I looked at her.
"You did this to yourself."
For the first time, Vanessa lost control.
She started blaming everyone.
My mother.
Elena.
The doctors.
Even me.
"You were never here!" she screamed.
"You left me alone with all this responsibility!"
I stared at her.
"You weren't carrying responsibility."
"You were hiding a crime."
The police arrived that afternoon.
The evidence was impossible to deny.
The assault.
The neglect.
The financial fraud.
The attempted exploitation of my mother's condition.
Vanessa was arrested.
But before she was taken away, she looked at Elena.
And smiled.
A cruel, final smile.
As if she still had one last secret.
I understood immediately.
There was more.
Later that evening, Elena sat beside my mother in the hospital room.
She looked exhausted.
"You should have left," I told her.
"You could have protected yourself."
She looked at me quietly.
"I couldn't leave your mother alone."
Those words stayed with me.
Because Elena had no reason to fight for my family.
She wasn't wealthy.
She wasn't powerful.
She wasn't trying to gain anything.
She simply saw someone vulnerable being hurt...
and stepped in.
My mother reached out and held Elena's hand.
"She saved my life," Mom whispered.
And I knew she was right.
Months later, after the trial began, the full truth came out.
Vanessa and Richard had planned everything.
They wanted control of my mother's inheritance.
They wanted access to my company accounts.
They wanted my signature on documents that would have destroyed everything my family built.
But the hidden cameras exposed every lie.
The judge sentenced Vanessa to prison.

Richard received the same fate.
Their perfect plan collapsed in a courtroom filled with the evidence they thought didn't exist.
