CHAPTER 2: THE FALL OF THE MAN WHO OWNED NOTHING

By 9:00 a.m., Mark arrived at his office expecting another normal day.

He walked through the glass doors like always.

Employees greeted him.

Assistants smiled.

Everyone saw the confident executive.

The man who drove the expensive car.

The man who lived in the mansion.

The man who seemed untouchable.

Until his assistant approached him.

“Mr. Carter, the board members are waiting.”

Mark frowned.

“The board?”

“Yes. They said it’s urgent.”

Something inside him tightened.

When he entered the conference room, five executives sat around the table.

No one smiled.

At the center was a thick folder.

His name was written on it.

Mark slowly sat down.

“What is this?”

The CEO opened the folder.

“Financial irregularities.”

Mark immediately shook his head.

“That’s impossible.”

The CEO looked at him.

“Then explain why company payments were transferred into accounts controlled by your mother.”

Silence.

Mark’s face changed.

“That’s not what it looks like.”

“Then what does it look like?”

He had no answer.

Because there wasn’t one.

Every transaction.

Every hidden transfer.

Every false invoice.

Everything had been discovered.

And behind all of it was Patricia.

The woman who spent years telling everyone Emily was the problem.

The woman who called Emily greedy.

The woman who claimed Mark was the provider.

By noon...

Mark was escorted out of the building.

The same people who once admired him avoided his eyes.

His perfect image disappeared in a single morning.

But the biggest shock came when he returned home.

The locks had already been changed.

Patricia was standing outside.

Three suitcases beside her.

“What is happening?” Mark demanded.

Emily stepped onto the front porch.

Calm.

Confident.

Different.

“You’re leaving.”

Mark stared.

“This is my house.”

Emily looked at him.

“No.”

She held up the property documents.

“This is my house.”

Patricia laughed nervously.

“You think paperwork changes everything?”

Emily turned toward her.

“No.”

She held up the security footage.

“The truth changes everything.”

Patricia’s smile disappeared.

Because for the first time...

May you like

She realized Emily was not the quiet woman she could control anymore.

She was the woman who had all the evidence.
