CHAPTER 3 — The Truth Hidden Behind the Marriage

Twenty minutes later, black SUVs filled the driveway.

The sound of engines replaced the storm.

Victor stood in the center of the mansion, trying to keep his confidence.

But something had changed.

The house that once felt like his kingdom suddenly felt like a prison.

The front doors opened.

Charles Whitmore entered with several security officers behind him.

He was older now.

His hair was gray.

His movements were slower.

But his eyes were still sharp.

Dangerously sharp.

He ignored Victor completely.

He walked straight to Laura.

“Look at me,” Charles said softly.

Laura tried to stand but couldn’t.

Her father immediately helped her up.

For the first time in months…

She felt safe.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered.

Charles looked at his daughter’s injured knee.

Then at the fear in Emma’s eyes.

His expression hardened.

“This wasn’t an accident.”

Victor stepped forward.

“You don’t understand what happened.”

Charles turned toward him.

“I understand everything.”

He pulled out a small folder.

Inside were photographs.

Medical reports.

Messages.

Records.

Proof.

Laura stared at the documents.

“What is that?”

Charles looked at her.

“Everything Victor thought he buried.”

The room went silent.

For months, Victor had convinced everyone that Laura was unstable.

That she was emotional.

That she was the problem.

But Charles had discovered the truth.

The hidden bank accounts.

The threatening messages.

The recordings.

The evidence of how Victor controlled every part of Laura’s life.

Victor’s confident mask finally cracked.

“You investigated me?”

Charles looked at him coldly.

“No.”

He paused.

“I protected my daughter.”
