CHAPTER 1: The Mansion That Was Never His

Adrian Vale’s face changed the moment Arthur Monroe entered the room.
For the first time that night, Adrian looked uncertain.
Not afraid.
Not yet.
But uncertain.
Because the man standing in front of him was not the weak, emotional father he expected.
Arthur Monroe was a man who had spent forty years building an empire from nothing. He had negotiated billion-dollar deals, destroyed corporate enemies, and survived every attempt to bring him down.
But tonight, he was not here as a businessman.
He was here as a father.
And his daughter was standing behind him with tears she refused to shed.
“My daughter is eight months pregnant,” Arthur said quietly.
His eyes moved toward Adrian.
“And you thought the right thing to do was throw her out of her own home?”
Adrian crossed his arms.
“You don’t understand the situation.”
Arthur’s expression didn’t change.
“I understand enough.”
Adrian laughed bitterly.
“This is my marriage. My house. My company.”
The attorney beside Arthur opened another folder.
“Actually, Mr. Vale, you should see these documents before you continue making statements that could become legally damaging.”
Adrian frowned.
“What are you talking about?”
The attorney placed several papers on the table.
“The company you claim you built was purchased through Monroe Capital six years ago.”
The room became silent.
Camille’s smile disappeared.
Adrian stared at the documents.
“That’s impossible.”
The attorney calmly continued.
“You were appointed CEO because Olivia requested that her father give you an opportunity.”
Olivia looked away.
She remembered.
Six years ago, Adrian had nothing but ambition.
He had told her he wanted to build something meaningful.
She had believed in him.
So she asked her father to help him.
She had given him the chance to become the man he always wanted to be.
And now…
He was using that success to destroy her.
“You knew?” Adrian whispered.
He looked at Olivia.
“You knew everything belonged to your family?”
Olivia finally spoke.
“I knew what mattered.”
Her voice was quiet.
“I thought you loved me.”
Those words hit harder than any accusation.
Because Adrian knew they were true.
Camille stepped forward.
“This is ridiculous. Olivia, you’re just angry because Adrian chose me.”
Arthur looked at her.
A cold silence filled the room.
“You should be careful,” he said.
Camille swallowed.
“Is that a threat?”
“No.”
Arthur adjusted his suit.
“It’s advice.”
Then he turned to Adrian.
“You have ten minutes to explain why you humiliated my daughter.”
Adrian stared at him.
For the first time, he realized something terrifying.
May you like
He had not thrown Olivia out.
He had challenged an empire.
