Chapter 2: The Woman Who Knew Too Much

The police investigation began immediately.
Richard was placed under temporary questioning, but without a confession, he remained free.
That was exactly what terrified Emily.
Because she knew her husband.
Richard was not the kind of man who would give up easily.
That night, Clara stayed beside Emily’s bedroom door.
“You should leave,” Emily told her softly.
Clara looked surprised.
“Why?”
“Because he’ll come after you.”
The maid lowered her eyes.
“I know.”
Emily stared at her.
“You knew?”
Clara sighed.
“Yes.”
She reached into her pocket and pulled out an old envelope.
Inside was a photograph.
A younger Richard.
Standing beside Victor Hale.
And behind them…
A blueprint of the mansion.
Emily’s face turned pale.
“What is that?”
“Proof,” Clara answered.
“Richard didn’t just plan the chandelier accident.”
She placed another document on the table.
“He planned your entire death.”
Emily picked it up.
It was a life insurance policy.
A massive one.
And the beneficiary?
Richard.
“He needed you gone,” Clara continued.
“Your father left you a fortune before he died. Richard married you because he wanted control of your assets.”
Emily felt sick.
The man she loved had never loved her.
She had been nothing more than a target.
Then suddenly…
The lights went out.
The mansion became completely dark.
A sound came from the hallway.
Slow footsteps.
Clara immediately stood up.
“Stay behind me.”
A shadow appeared at the doorway.
Not Richard.
Victor Hale.
Older now.
But still carrying the same cold smile.
“You always were too loyal, Clara.”
She stepped forward.
“You tried to kill her.”
Victor smiled.
“No.”
He looked at Emily.
“Richard tried.”
A moment of silence.
Then Victor said something that changed everything.
“Your husband wasn’t planning to run away after killing you.”
Emily stared.
“What do you mean?”
Victor walked closer.
“He planned to kill everyone who knew the truth.”
Suddenly, a gunshot echoed through the mansion.
The bullet hit the wall beside them.
Clara grabbed Emily and pulled her behind the furniture.
Victor smiled.
“Now you understand.”
May you like
“Your husband isn’t trying to escape.”
“He’s trying to erase the evidence.”
