CHAPTER 2 â The Truth Danielle Tried To Bury

The next morning, Marcus began searching.
He didnât accuse Danielle.
He didnât shout.
He simply investigated.
Because Marcus knew one thing:
People who were hiding something usually destroyed themselves when pressured.
And Danielle was already making mistakes.
When she found out Marcus was asking questions, she immediately became defensive.
âWhy are you interfering?â she demanded.
Marcus looked at her calmly.
âBecause a child was crying in front of everyone yesterday.â
Danielle crossed her arms.
âYou donât understand our family.â
Marcus stared at her.
âNo.â
He paused.
âBut I understand children.â
Those words hit harder than Danielle expected.
That afternoon, Marcus discovered old documents hidden inside a locked cabinet.
A birth certificate.
Medical records.
And a photograph.
The photograph showed a young woman holding baby Amara.
But it wasnât Danielle.
Marcus looked closer.
The woman in the picture was Danielleâs former friend, Elena.
The woman who disappeared six years earlier.
The woman everyone believed had abandoned her child.
But Marcus found something else.
A letter.
A letter Elena had written before she vanished.
It explained everything.
Danielle had been jealous of Elenaâs life.
When Elena became sick after giving birth, Danielle offered to help.
She promised to care for Amara.
But over time...
she became obsessed with keeping the child.
Because Danielle had lost the one thing she wanted most.
A family.
So she created a lie.
She told everyone Amara was her biological daughter.
And she convinced the world that Elena had walked away.
But the truth was much darker.
Elena had never abandoned Amara.
She had been trying to return.
Until she disappeared.
Marcus read the final sentence of the letter.
âIf anything happens to me, please tell Amara that her mother never stopped loving her.â
Marcus closed his eyes.
For years...
a little girl had believed she wasnât wanted.
When the truth was the opposite.
She had been loved the entire time.
That evening, Marcus confronted Danielle.
She immediately broke down.
âYou donât understand!â
Her voice shook.
âI loved her!â
Marcus looked at her coldly.
âLove doesnât make a child feel unwanted.â
Danielle cried.
âI was afraid.â
âAfraid of what?â
âThat she would leave me.â
Marcus stepped closer.
âYou were so afraid of losing herâŠâ
He paused.
âThat you made her believe she had already lost you.â
Danielle had no answer.
May you like
Because for the first time...
she realized the damage she had caused.
