Chapter 2: The Daughter Who Didn’t Know

Rebecca Whitmore loved her mother.

That was the only reason Vanessa had not destroyed everything yet.

Because Rebecca was the one person standing between Vanessa and complete control.

But Vanessa knew exactly how to manipulate her.

Every video call became a performance.

She adjusted Eleanor’s blanket.

She smiled warmly.

She called her “sweetheart.”

And Eleanor watched helplessly.

Every time she tried to reveal the truth, Vanessa stopped her.

One evening, Rebecca noticed something.

A bruise.

Small.

Almost hidden.

But visible.

“Mom?” Rebecca asked.

“Did you hurt yourself?”

Eleanor stared directly into the camera.

Her lips trembled.

She tried to speak.

Help.

Please.

But only a broken sound escaped.

Vanessa immediately interrupted.

“Oh, she gets confused after her medication.”

Rebecca hesitated.

For the first time…

She almost believed something was wrong.

But then Vanessa showed her a fake medical report.

And Rebecca apologized.

“I’m sorry I doubted you.”

That night, Eleanor cried silently.

Because her own daughter had unknowingly protected the person hurting her.
