Chapter 4: The Secret Behind The Maid

The next morning, Elena was called to Alexander’s office.

She expected the worst.

She thought she would be fired.

Instead, Alexander offered her a seat.

“I want to ask you something.”

“Yes, sir.”

“Why did you risk your job?”

Elena looked down.

“Because my mother was once in that wheelchair.”

Alexander became quiet.

Elena continued.

“She was treated like she was less important because she was weak.”

“My family had no money. Nobody defended her.”

“So I promised myself…”

“I would never walk away when someone needed help.”

Alexander looked at her differently.

Not as a maid.

Not as an employee.

As a person.

Then Margaret entered the room.

She smiled.

“I told you, Alexander.”

He looked at his mother.

“Told me what?”

“She has something most wealthy people lost.”

“What?”

May you like

Margaret smiled.

“Humanity.”
