Chapter 3 – The Family's Dark Secret

Ryan laughed when Daniel confronted him.

"You honestly think I'd kill your wife?"

Emily watched him carefully.

He wasn't nervous.

He was angry.

Almost offended.

"I wasn't even home," Ryan said.

"My phone proves it."

It did.

His GPS showed he had been across town at the exact time of the attack.

Emily's certainty began to crumble.

Then the family attorney arrived unexpectedly.

"There is something Mr. Parker never told you."

He placed an old envelope on the dining table.

Inside was their late father's revised will.

The room went cold.

The original estate had been divided equally between Daniel and Ryan.

But a confidential amendment had been added only six months earlier.

If Daniel died before inheriting...

Everything would pass to his legal heir.

His unborn child.

If both Daniel and the baby died before the estate was transferred...

Every dollar.

Every company.

Every property.

Would belong to the executor of the estate.

The attorney slowly looked toward one person.

Margaret Parker.

Daniel's own mother.

Emily felt her blood run cold.

Someone hadn't been trying to kill Daniel.

Someone had been trying to eliminate the only obstacle standing between Margaret and a billion-dollar fortune.
